Motivation for Mamas-to-be

Happy Monday, Friends! Hope you had a fantabulous weekend. Mine, as usual, was packed with family parties and FOOD! It's always the best of times and the worst of times because I end up eating myself into a tizzy and feeling uber-guilty afterwards.
This pregnancy is really making my battle with food difficult. I want to be healthy but I'm craving all kinds of crap as I sit my butt on the couch day after day. In result, I have gained between 25-30 lbs and I'm only 26 weeks along. This might not seem like a big deal to some, but to me, I feel like a failure and a whale....a whaliure.

One of my biggest gripes at the moment is people discounting my feelings because I'm "thin" and blah blah "You're pregnant. Eat what you want." First off, I feel like shit! I'm swollen and I can't walk at night because it's so painful. Secondly, sure, I'll drop some of the weight when I have the baby, but will my thighs and new layer of butt fat be on board with dropping the extra poundage? No woman likes to feel heavier and I am positive that no one likes the feeling of their pants not being able to go over their thighs.
Story of my summer.

I might be a little hormonal right now. Apologies.

So this ugly cycle continues. Eat, guilt, workout, eat, guilt, workout. Hopefully I can stop it.

I shall dub this post:

Motivation Monday for Mamas-to-be. Anyone else need the motivation to be healthy, feel good and STRONG? (Thank God we don't need to work our Abs this summer!)

Here are some great workout plans I found that Baby and I will be doing this week.

1. Easy enough for a lazy bum like me to do. Here's the link.
2. Best $14.99 I've spent at Target! This all comes in a set.

3. Yoga for my tight muscles. I miss you, Downward Dog. This is on Netflix right now!

Here's to a week of healthy habits. Wish me luck and may the force be with you, too!

  1. AWESOME! I'll have to archive this for when my time comes because I have a feeling I'll feel like you! You're doing great. I'm sure it stinks to feel bigger than normal, but I think you look wonderful. You're a hot baby mama! :-D

    1. Thank you for the compliments Kristin!! I think when you're time comes you're going to do better than I did. You're an amazing runner and if you keep it up during your pregnancy you won't gain like I did! I wish I kept it up. Next time I guess :)

  2. Hey Girl, I know exactly how you feel! My cravings have been unbearable, especially in the first trimester. I would eat anything and everything, and I didn't have the common morning sickness to suppress my appetite, like a lot of pregnant women. Also, my energy has been non-existent almost the entire pregnancy so far. I'm trying not to worry too much about weight gain, but I can't help but think about what it's going to be like post-pregnancy. I have regained a little energy the past couple of weeks, so I've managed to work-out 8 of the past 9 days! :) I'm very proud of myself! I bought 3 prenatal workouts. You can check out my reviews if you like. http://introspectivejamie.blogspot.com/2012/07/prenatal-workout-dvds.html
Good luck this week! I hope you have a healthful rest of the pregnancy! :D
P.S. I do think you look great, by the way! ;)

  4. I need to send this link to my sister. She is 20 weeks and has gained 23 pounds and she said she feels huge. Apparently there is a 'recommended' weight to gain and she has passed it. (SO stupid to have a recommended weight.) I think every woman is different and gains what she needs to. I gained nearly 40 lbs with both of my pregnancies. I told my self I was going to eat healthy for each pregnancy but when it came down to it, I ate what I wanted and had NO self control. Now 10 months later after my 2nd child I have finally lost the weight (those last 5 lbs were what took so long) and I am satisfied. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Congrats by the way!!

    1. Thanks for the support. It's nice to know that I am not alone. That's awesome that you lost the weight. Some people never do. I hope I can have that discipline afterwards.

  5. Oh girl, it's like you took the words right outa my mouth! I too feel whale-esque. Ugh. I printed out the same exact work out plan from the bump ... And totally never did anything with it. The working out I did (in the beginning) was walking my dog around the big park by our house, which turned into me just walking him around the block, and now I barely do that. So pathetic. And I bought that same exact DVD from target with every intention of working out to it ... And totally didn't. Ugh. But I have only 4ish weeks left of this pregnancy and soon my little man will be here. I really wish you better luck than I had in the work out department. :)

    1. Haha! We are two peas in a pod. I used to walk my pups more, too. Now it's like "do you business so I can sit on the couch, dog!" pregnancy does some weird things to our bodies. I'm hoping that after baby I can post some good ways to get our bodies back.

    1. I love those someecards. I think they are so popular because they are so true. What foods am I eating? It's more like what am I NOT eating. I am a vacuum!

  7. Oh Joanna, you are beautiful. A beautiful momma!! My cousin gained ninety-three pounds with her first baby (93!!!!) and is back to her normal weight after six months. I think you gain what you need to gain and if a little extra slips in there it's okay...baby doesn't mind. I love that you posted these workouts....knowing myself I will be too lazy to do them but maybe I can get motivated :). I, like you, just wanna feel healthy!!

  10. Well, you look beautiful in your 25 weeks picture, but I am sure that isn't helping the way you feel:) I heard that breastfeeding is an amazing calorie burner.
