Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles

Hello Bloggerinos.

This post is going to take me a million years to complete. I let so much time pass that I forgot how to blog. I forgot how to type and I'm typing with a voice activated machine. It's not letting me say any bad words, so this will be boring. I'm just messing...It's letting me say all the bad words I want.

So, how do I come back to Bloggyland after a week long Hiatus? How'z about the best waffles you've ever had? I think THAT is very very appropriate for my return. I'm tellin' you kid...BEST waffles.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles- Pasadena, California

If you decide to come here...and I promise you it will be a good decision... you need to do some things to prepare.

1. Exercise. Make that heart of yours healthy for your upcoming butter and lard consumption. They ain't cookin' with no healthy oils. (I don't know why I had to grammatically butcher that sentence.)
I wonder if I could use this as a Lip Balm.
2. Come Hungry. I usually like to come here to introduce some friends to a good place to eat, or maybe when we are celebrating a special occasion like the fact that it's a weekday or a weekend, or if we're really feigning for some food for the soul...or soul food...which ever. We went to celebrate my Sister-in-law being such an awesome Softball pitcher.
So basically, you don't need to do much to prepare. Just exercise and come hungry. Burn a few then gain a few. That's pretty much my food/workout mantra.

The menu is pretty much reflective of something your Grandma from the South would cook up on a weekly basis...What? You don't have a Grandma from the South? Neither do I.... Roscoe's will take care of you.

Besides the Chicken 'n Waffles, they are also known for their mac n' cheese, that are so homemadely cheesy and will definitely make you feel like you're five again, their greens, which are smokey and count as a vegetable so you should add it on, and their cornbread, which is soft, buttery, and I want to steal their recipe.

I tried not to go crazy...and by crazy I mean getting a bucket of chicken (which they told me they do not have, so I'll be writing a complaint letter to the president soon.) and two waffles like Hubby. I settled for one and one...

Don't let this picture fool you. This waffle is a monster. Yes, I could've eaten more, but then I  would be a monster. This plate is called the "Carol C. Special" which comes with a "succulent breast, delicious waffle."  They should add the words "NOM NOM NOM" and " I think I'm in Love" to that description.

The chicken is indeed succulent and juicy. Not like KFC juicy, which is not really juicy, just fatty and oily. The flavor on it is perfect and not overly salty or overly anything really. I appreciate the breading to chicken ratio...mostly chicken and just the right amount of breading...as it should be! You can get it smothered with their amazing gravy as well...but I prefer it nekkid.

And then, there is the waffle. My boyfriend. If you told me to marry it I would... at the same church my Hubby and I got married which is literally across the street from this place. It's soft, buttery, has a salt kick that makes any baked good complete, and drizzle on some warm syrup and you got me swoooning.

The family loved it!
I love this meal so much, I recreated it for my last New Year's Party. It didn't come close to Roscoe's... I will never come close to that. I'm not a Grandma from the South.

Now who will be my new friend that I will introduce Roscoe's too? Tomorrow is a weekday...and I think that calls for a celebration!! I'll be in the car waiting... call me.

  • I missed you! How are you?
  • Have you ever heard or tried Chicken and waffles?

The Most FAVORITE of them all.

Tomorrow is my last day of school. My last day of my first year teaching High School. The LAST day.
I. AM. SO. HAPPY!

VERY HAPYY!
Jumping in Jumpers HAPPY!
No more teaching those RUDE High School Boys.
No more staring at bullet holes.
No more pencils.
No more books.
No more Teacher's dirty looks.
...until August anyway. But still...I'm EX....wait for it...CITED!

I have some summer goals I'd like to accomplish. I'm going to go Cray Cray on this summmaaaaa!

1. Kick out this summer reading list
  • Bossypants
  • The Happiness Project
  • Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
  • Reread The Alchemist
  • AND SO MANY MORE! **Any Recommendations?**
2. Jog at the beach. Sleep at the beach. Eat at the beach. Read at the beach. Make sandcastles with  paper cups...complete with the moat that will never hold water because the water just wont stay above the sand at the beach. NOT swim. at the beach (Maybe I should make "Learn to Swim" a goal?)
Barbados 2006 with my beautiful Auntie Irene
3. Organize the HECK out of our house. Purge all the closets. Get rid of the junk (T, can you please come over and help me with this? I'll pay you in....Crustables.) Put away wedding stuff...because the wedding has been over for 7 months now, Joanna!

4.  Be a better Blogger. I have been slacking on my Project Wifey Wife. I assure you that I have been eating good dinners, even if I haven't been posting them. And Hubby is being fed still, too. I have some summer recipes in mind and a new project in store. ::rubs hands together::  MWAHAHAH!

5. Jump back on the Healthy wagon. This is what I ate for dinner last night....

I didn't eat this ALL by myself. I had some help. But now I feel like I just murdered someone. Guilty. If I don't do something about this soon...someone will have to shoot me with a tranquilizer gun. I'm going to run my buh-dunka-dunk off...run like a tranquilizer fun is being aimed at my muffin top. Healthy eating. Heathy habits. Heathy feeling!

LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!
  • What are you summer plans/goals?
  • Any book recommendations for me?

I Got Shaved

Monday...grrrr....

I hope you all had a great weekend! I sure did, you know, because the world didn't end.

Truth be told, I was a bit scaredy cat about it. I am a Christian and I know that I shouldn't be scared, but when everyone is yappin' about it...I can't help but feel a bit anxious. Heck, there was even a man who said that he was going to euthanize all his pets when the rapture came. Yes, I understand he was probably a crazy koo-koo, but that still put a twinge of anxiety in me. I gave Sonic an extra BIG HUG that day.
In the meantime, Hubby and I went on another Double Date adventure with Ed and Kristin! We went to stroll around Old Town Pasadena to find a place for dinner.

Our adventure included: Getting lost ::cough:: boys fault ::cough::

People trying to convert us into Scientology...

And finally, finding a new place to dine.

Bar Celona- Tapas Restaurant.
It was a small, eclectic place with different types of people. That's always a good sign.

The boys started with a couple of Spanish Beers, while I settled for a glass of White Sangria.
THEN, it was time for the food....amazing food...unique food...and flavorfully fun food.
Garlic Shrimp....Tangy goodness

Pork Croquetas... Grenade of flavor

Short Rib Empanada- Yum Bomb

Serrano Ham- Delicate but flavor kick to the buds

Spanish Flatbread with THREE types of Sausage. BOOM.
THE GRAND FINALE...the one that made us food-gasm all the way home...
Braised Pork Belly. PERIOD.
This pork belly was incredibly tender, flavorful, and that creamy egg BLEW MY MIND! It sat on top of shredded brussel sprouts, heirloom tomatoes, and bacon, all drizzled with a balsamic sauce. I can't put into words how superb this dish was. I mean, I used the word SUPERB! That should tell you something.

After this masterpiece of a meal, we got shaved. All of us. At the same time.

Shaved Ice Truck. Need I say more? Check out this glorious menu.
It's nothing like a snow cone...the ice is shaved so much finer than that and the syrups aren't too sweet. It was JUST LIKE HAWAII!

The prices are amazing...and as it should be...it's only ICE and JUICE! Ludacris!

I chose  half Tiger's Blood (Pina Colada-ish), half Orange Dreamsicle with sweet cream on top, and a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream on the bottom.  I ran the morning after... no worries.

But Ed won with this amazing creation.

Two pillowy soft Macadamia Cookies hugging Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. It was the best ice cream sandwich we've ever tasted. We voted that.

  • How was your weekend? Tell me one good thing.
  • Have you ever been to a Tapas restaurant?
  • Fan of Shaved Ice?

A Little Bit in Love with You

I am currently listening to her CD on repeat. Feel free to listen while you read. Can't speak for her, but I don't mind if you multi-task.

I wish I were a hot girl lead in my very own band. Oh, and I'll attach scones to every CD I sell. That'll gain the fans! FOR. SURE.

This week I am also loving childhood treats that I used to eat in Germany. I found this at WorldMart. I nearly peed in my pants when I saw these. Just like a little kid again....ahhh memories.

If you like Nutella, you'll LOOOOVE this. There's Nutella inside. And it's what's inside that counts. Right?

I'm almost done with Funny in Farsi. Is it funny? YES. Do I love it? YES. It's a quick and easy read. Why is it taking me so long, you ask? Well, stop asking questions....::Stephanie Tanner Voice:: "How RUDE."

As I finish that book, I'm having an affair with this book. And my Husband is having an affair with this game. Don't worry, we love each other A LOT. Except for the hours we are spending with our new game and our new book. We have that understanding that makes for a perfect marriage.

Bare Minerals Foundation-I am loving that I can sleep a bit longer in the morning. This product allows me to do that...no it really says "Joanna, I'm allowing you to take an extra 5 minutes. You're going to have a tough day."
This is makeup for Lazy Girls. Or guys, too I guess...

Impromptu Sushi nights. I told Hubby I had a hard day at work and the only cure is some kind of Salmon Roll. He believed me. And I don't feel bad for lying.

My purse hanging thingy- Girls' best friend for SHEEZE. No more holding my purse awkwardly as I try to eat dinner, then ever so gracefully dripping mizithra pasta into my one and only Coach purse. It's hanging there, like a pretty little Christmas Ornament. I like.

Wow, I had a lot of favorites this week.
  • What are you loving this week?
  • What books are you currently loving?

Mr. Slugworth

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know I've been on a Hazelnut kick. If calories and cavities weren't an issue, I would be licking this bad boy clean.
I've got the golden ticket.

I wish I were Agustus Gloop. I wanted to be the one who fell into the chocolate river. Sucked into the tube? Not so much...but if so...that would be the way to die. Death by Chocolate.

Did I mention I was born in Germany? Agustus and I should be homies. We have so much in common.

  • Nutella Fan?
  • If you could be a Willy Wonka character, who would you be?

Resolutions 2011 Revisited

It's been four months since I made my New Year's Resolutions. I need to revisit them...because I forgot them. I've been busy. I've been doing other things. I have work to do. Umm... are those enough legit excuses to make you believe that I'm sorry? I can think of more, just give me about 2 hours.

My  2011 Resolutions:

Strong Me:
1. Sign up and RUN (Not run/walk) at least 2 5Ks. I signed up and completed 2 races. One: Angels Fun Run and Two: Donate Life 5K. I didn't completely RUN them, but I'm getting there. I'll mark this as~In Progress
2. Get active at least 3 times a week. Does napping count as being active? How about eating ridiculous amounts of butter? How about...wait why are you looking at me like that? I'll mark this as~GET ON IT JOANNA!

Foodie Me:
3. Add more fruits and Vegetables to every meal. I'm doing pretty well! When summer is here, it'll be on like Donkey Kong. I'll mark this as ~ CHA-CHING!

4. Continue cooking healthy and yummy dinners each day. If you've been following me I'm sure you'd agree that I'm doing pretty well on this one. I'll mark this as ~ BADA-BING!

Spiritual Me:
5. Make God my priority. I'm doing ok with this one. Not great. Not even good. Just ok. I am so happy that there are more friends that the Lord is placing it my path to guide me though. Here are some great blogs that I have been reading that speaks to my spiritual self.
6. Read my daily devotionals. I'm failing miserably on this one... I'll mark this one as~ DOH!

Intellectual Me:
7. Watch less TV and read books. I'm 50/50 on this one. I'm 50- HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is the best show EVER and 50- I'm on my 3rd book this year and 50 blogging like a maniac. I know that's more than the 50/50 but it's mine and I can do what I want. I'll mark this one as~In Progress.

Currently reading and LOVING!

8. Be PRESENT. I am trying my best to stay present and involved in what I'm doing at the moment. This is good. I'll mark this one as~In Progress

The Wifey Me:
9. Be his friend.I've been making it a point to talk to him about HIS day. We watch HIMYM every night at 7pm and give each other high fives every day. We laugh together. We have heart to hearts. We enjoy each other's company. He's my bestest friend in the whole wide wo-yld. I'll mark this one as~ You're doin' it baby!

10.Be Patient-I'm trying REALLY hard. I hope it's working. Hubby might have to comment below about how I'm doing.I'll mark this one as ~Let's hope he comments!

The Friend Me:
11. Cultivate Strong Friendships: I've been making time and making more of an effort to visit my friends and invite them out instead of waiting for them to invite me. I'm having a lot of fun and trying new things. I am working on building my very own "Saved By The Bell" type friendships if you know what I'm sayin' I'll mark this one as ~ In Progress!

12. Make more of an effort: I've been trying really hard to keep in contact with the friends that matter to me the most. Whether it's through text message, email, or honestly asking and showing that I care about how their life is going when I'm with them, I'm trying my best. I could do better though. I'll mark this one as ~ In Progress!

  • Did you make resolutions?
  • Tell me one and how your doing!
  • If you didn't make one, make ONE now and tell me what it is!
